Health minister: Infant mortality rate declined in Armenia

The infant mortality rate has declined in Armenia, Health Minister Derenik Dumanian said at a meeting with reporters today.

In his words, it is the best index compared with the previous years. ‘In 2013 the infant mortality rate was half the average index in CIS, but it is almost twice as high as the European index. Work in this direction continues. Mother and child health care is a priority of our health system,” the minister stated.

As for maternal mortality, progress has been made as well, Dumanian said.

According to him, the maternal mortality ratio in Armenia is 21.2 deaths per 100,000 live births. The CIS average index is 29.3, but the ratio in Armenia is high as compared with European countries.
