Minasian: NKR’s economic recognition will lead to its political recognition

Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh are in a ‘common customs union’ and in case of Armenia’s entry into the Customs Union, Nagorno Karabakh will also become part of that zone, the Armenian parliament’s deputy Gagik Minasian told journalists today.

In his words, the Armenian authorities have repeatedly stated that there is no customs border between Armenia and the NKR, while on December 22 the Russian president signed an agreement on the abolition of customs duties between Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

These agreements simplify the NKR-related problems that have to do with the final recognition of the NKR, Gagik Minasian said. “The NKR will become a territory of the Customs Union and will have the same status as unrecognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The NKR will get an economic recognition, which will later form a basis for its political recognition,” G. Minasian declared.
