L. Alaverdian: 5% deduction from salary is violation of property right

The compulsory accumulative pension system is a classic example of violation of citizens’ right of property, the first ombudsperson of Armenia, chairwoman of Against Legal Arbitrariness NGO Larisa Alaverdian told a press conference today.

“This system does not inspire trust and 5% deductions from salaries until the Constitutional Court’ decision on the issue should be considered a violation of citizens’ right of property,” she said. In her words, people should defend their rights themselves.

Commenting on the dismissal of three employees of the Yerevan metro, Larisa Alaverdian noted that in Armenia, people whose rights are violated are very often reluctant to complain. “A working person cannot be poor, but this rule does not apply to Armenia,” she noted.

We would remind you that management of the Yerevan metro unilaterally terminated the labor contracts with three drivers who participated in a protest against the accumulative pension system. Andranik Gevorgian, Sevak Hovhannisian and Gagik Galstian who have worked in the company for 15 years were dismissed under Article 113 part 6 of the Labor Code (distrust of an employee).
