Unification of non-coalition factions not evidence of opposition’s strength

The unification of the Armenian parliament’s four non-coalition factions and their demand for the government resignation does not speak of the opposition’s strength, quite the opposite - it shows that the process was initiated for the sake of the process, Deputy Director of Caucasus Institute, political scientist Sergei Minasian told reporters.

“These four parties seem to be in crisis. It is hard to imagine Armenian National Congress, ARF-Dashnaktsutyun, Heritage Party, and Prosperous Armenia Party as parties sharing the same ideas,” Minasian noted.

According to him, these political forces are just trying to display political activity. The political scientist expressed doubt about the results of that cooperation now that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia constitutes a majority in the parliament.
