President may attend Eastern Partnership summit: 1in.am

In all likelihood Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will participate in the Eastern Partnership summit due to be held in Prague on April 23-24.

Czech Foreign Ministry’s Special Envoy on the Eastern Partnership Program Peter Mares said recently that the summit will be attended by EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule, and Presidents of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Moldova.

When asked by 1in.am if President Serzh Sargsyan will attend the summit, the spokesman for the Armenian president Arman Saghatelian replied that as a rule, the Department of Public Relations and Mass Media of the President’s Office duly releases information about presidential visits.

“Nevertheless, I should say that during the January 30 joint press conference with President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated about his intention to participate in the Eastern Partnership summit in Prague”, Arman Saghatelian noted.

We would remind you that at the joint press conference of the Presidents of Armenia and the Czech Republic, Serzh Sargsyan said: “We are convinced that it is quite possible to develop various integration processes by following a path of cooperation and compatibility, rather than of opposition. In this sense the Eastern Partnership could become a natural bridge promoting economic integration from Afghanistan to the Pacific “.
