Tigran Sargsyan meets with Dmitry Medvedev in Sochi

During his working visit to Sochi, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan met with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, the press office of the Armenian government reported.

On behalf of Armenia’s government and people, T. Sargsyan congratulated D. Medvedev on the successful holding of the Sochi Winter Olympics and the impressive achievements and records of Russian athletes.

Thanking the Armenian prime minister for attending the closing ceremony of the Olympics, D. Medvedev said that the working meeting will give an opportunity to discuss Russian-Armenian cooperation, the work related to Armenia’s upcoming entry into the Customs Union and the further development of bilateral trade.

The two prime ministers addressed a number of issues concerning Armenian-Russian strategic relations, bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and investment, including joint programs in such spheres as energy, industry and infrastructure.
T. Sargsyan stressed that Russian companies play an important role in the Armenian economy.

“More than a thousand companies in Armenia were founded with Russian capital. Russia ranks first in terms of investments in Armenia. We hope that these investments in various spheres of our country will continue,” he stated.

The sides noted with satisfaction that bilateral trade volumes have increased, expressing confidence that bilateral trade will receive renewed impetus after Armenia joins the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space.

They also appreciated the implementation of measures envisaged by the roadmap for Armenia’s entry into the Customs Union.
The interlocutors discussed the work on modernization of the operating unit of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, extension of its service life, and the measures to increase its safety as well as other issues related to bilateral relations.

We would remind you that Tigran Sargsayn attended the closing ceremony of the Sochi Olympics at the invitation of Dmitry Medvedev. During the visit, the Armenian prime minister also had a short conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
