Kocharian: We negotiate with Russia over mitigation of migration law

Armenia will sign two migration laws with Russia after its entry into the Customs Union, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharian told reporters today.

The first one is a bilateral agreement regulating temporary residence in Russia, while the second agreement is related to migrant labor. Armenia has asked Russia to start work on this agreement’s signing earlier than it was envisaged by the roadmap, the deputy minister said.

“After signing these two agreements with Russia, we will get the same status as the other member states of the Customs Union,” S. Kocharian noted.

We would remind you that on January 1, 2014 a new law changing the conditions of CIS citizens’ stay in Russia took effect in the Russian Federation. Under the new law, foreign citizens without an entry visa may stay in Russia only 90 days out of any 180 days.

Shavarsh Kocharian said that negotiations are underway between Armenia and Russia with the aim of mitigating the migration rules for Armenian citizens.
