'Maidan will not happen in Armenia - the discontented mass emigrated'

A small percentage of our population shows rebelliousness as the behavioral model so no ‘Maidan’ will happen in Armenia, sociologist Arthur Mkrtchian told reporters today.

“There is a desire to improve life through changes and reach the desired living standard, but an atmosphere of pain has reigned in Armenia since the March 1 events,” he said adding that this served as a lesson for prevention of bloodshed in our country.

Accoridng to Mkrtchian, besides social problems in Armenia, there are also deep-set problems that have been ignored.

“Problems related to the value system exist. Serious changes took place in our identity structure, but no importance is attached to them,” the sociologist said. In his words, Armenia’s population has divided into two groups: those who are contended with the system and the discontented ones. The discontented people mainly express their position by emigrating from the country, rather than by holding protests, Arthur Mkrtchian said.
