Shahnazarian: War in Ukraine may have grave consequences for Russia

Crimea is a special region for Ukraine and the ongoing developments there have affected Kiev, Director of Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandarian told journalists today. In his words, there is a collapse of the state and power in Ukraine.

The Head of ‘Accord’ Center David Shahnazarain did not rule out that Russia may start active actions in the South Caucasian region as well.

As regards the policy of the current Ukrainian authorities, Shahnazarian said they behave quite prudently and do their best to avert a military collision between Russia and Ukraine.

“An invisible dialog of the West, Russia and the U.S. is underway, and the sides have not come to an agreement, according to official statements. In fact, Russia tries to establish a new world order, which is directed against the international community and the consequences will evidently be grave for Russia,” Shahnazarian noted.

According to him, in violation of all international norms, Russia occupied Crimea, while the decision adopted by the Crimean parliament cannot be considered legal as it was made in the presence of the military on the peninsula.

When asked about the likelihood of Armenia’s involvement as a CSTO member state in the process, Alexander Iskandarian said there will be no war. In his words, even in case of a war, it is difficult to imagine a situation when Russia will need Armenian troops.
