‘Cameras should be used to introduce order, not to rob drivers’

Road safety cameras have become a means of doing business, the chairman of the League for Protection of Motorists’ Rights Tigran Hovhannisian told a press conference today. In his words, the number of fines has increased, arousing drivers’ hatred towards them. He added that high fines are imposed, which prompted them to apply to the Armenian police chief to draw his attention.

“Cameras should be used to introduce order and not to rob drivers,” T. Hovhannisian said.

Another speaker at the press conference, motorist Ara Beglarian noted that under such conditions, drivers have to learn the rules on each street by heart.

“You observe the speed limit on a highway and you are suddenly told that you were to drive more slowly, but there was no respective road sign so it turns out that you should know the rules on this road by heart,” he said.

Tigran Hovhannisian added that they hope the police will not ignore the problem.
