Open letter: Condemn inhuman treatment of peaceful civilian Khojoyan

The International Union of Compatriots of Armenia’s Tavush province has sent an open letter to the heads of the UN Office and the OSCE Office in Yerevan and the head of the ICRC Armenian Delegation. The letter reads as follows:

“Respected representatives of international organizations!

Yet another act of cruelty has been committed by Azerbaijan in public view.

77-year-old resident of Verin Karmiraghbyur village of Tavish province Mamikon Khojoyan suffering from a mental disorder lost his way at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and crossed into Azerbaijan where he was tortured and later freed with injuries.
Being the largest organization dealing with problems of Tavush province that has the longest border with Azerbaijan, the International Union of Compatriots of Tavush addresses border problems.

Appealing to you, we ask and demand that you present the problem to the whole world through your channels and put pressure on the Azerbaijani authorities, condemning the inhuman treatment of a peaceful civilian, which contradicts the 4th Geneva Convention. Urgent actions must be taken since at the moment we have another border violation case: Tavush resident Arsen Khojoyan is in Azerbaijan.

We also ask you to present the results of your actions to the public, which is in your interest as well”.
