Aram Manukian: Crimea referendum sets a precedent

Armenia can expect a fair resolution to the Karabakh conflict after the referendum in Crimea, political scientist Aram Manukian told reporters today.

“The Crimea referendum has become a precedent and naturally it will affect the Karabakh conflict settlement. As a rule, in such conflicts preference is given to nations’ right to self-determination,” Manukian said.

In his words, in the future Russia will not be able to avoid this principle in case of Nagorno Karabakh.

“In addition, the differences between Russia and the West have become clear following the recent events. Thus any event acceptable to Russia is unacceptable to the West,” he said.
