H. Sahakian: Events in Ukraine have no relation to Armenia

“I consider it wrong to draw a parallel between the developments in Armenia and Ukraine. What is happening in Ukraine has no relation to Armenia,” the secretary of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) parliamentary faction Hovhannes Sahakian told Aysor.am.

He said that unlike Armenia, Ukraine initialed the association agreement with the EU long ago and prepared its people for signing the document.

“The subsequent actions of Ukraine were incomprehensible to Russia and the European Union. As regards Armenia, discussions about integration directions were held in our country, we conducted parallel negotiations with Russia and the EU. As a result, we took a decision about entry into the Customs Union, and we continue to cooperate with the EU in other directions. In any case, out position is clear to all the sides,” Sahakian explained.

In his words, he was surprised by the statements of various political forces and figures who are inspired by the events in Maidan and believe that a change of power in Armenia should happen in he same way.

According to Sahakian, the political crisis in Ukraine, the economic disintegration, human casualties in that country should not serve as an example for Armenia.

“This way of coming to power only leads to new problems and a crisis,” H. Sahakian noted.
