Ashotian has no intention to compromise: 93 students may be expelled

Armenian Ministry of Education and Science will not meet 93 medical students halfway this year, Minister Armen Ashotian said today during his visit to Clinical Hospital # 1 of State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi.

As was reported earlier, 93 medical students will not be allowed to retake their exams for a third time. A few days ago the students applied to the education and science minister, reminding him that such an opportunity was provided last year. “There were cases when an opportunity was provided to retake an exam 4-5 times,” they wrote in a letter.

During a talk with reporters, Armen Ashotian responded to the students’ letter.

“We made an exception last year. There were more such students – about 200. Frankly, some problems related to the medical university’s financial stability may arise. However, the reason why I am unwilling to meet medical students halfway this year is simple. The university has lowered the acceptable score by 10 points this year so we cannot make concessions to students who were unable to overcome this low threshold. A future doctor should study well,” the minister said.
