Staff reductions will follow merger of SEUA and Architecture University

The State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA) and Yerevan University of Architecture and Construction will merge, Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotian told reporters after the government session today.

According to him, discussions have already begun with the teaching staff and students of two universities.

Both positive and negative aspects of the merger will be assessed, the minister said, noting that small and medium-sized higher educational institutions are uncompetitive and there is a world-wide tendency towards mergers in universities.

Ashotian did not rule out that the merger will be followed by a reduction in the administrative staff and the faculty.

In his words, open and transparent discussions with the participation of all interested parties are being held to ensure a smooth, painless merger process.
