Gerpekchian: Intensification of Karabakh talks expected

The events in Ukraine and the Crimea referendum could have a positive or negative impact on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, expert Petros Gerpekchian told Aysor.am.

“The OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair James Warlick wrote on Twitter that “we should consider what is to be learned from events in Ukraine”. I think the mediators will try their best to avoid escalation. It means that intensification in the negotiating process can be expected, and the mediators will attempt to secure themselves against undesirable consequences,” he noted.

According to Gerpekchian, a meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan may take place soon, and in case of a positive outcome, a meeting of the presidents of the two countries will be held.
