Ambassador: Armenian community is one of largest in Ukraine
Armenian-Ukrainian relations are developing and will continue to develop, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Kukhta said.
In his words, Ukraine has repeatedly expressed its position on the Nagorno Karabakh problem, declaring that the conflict should be settled within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. Mr. Kukhta stressed that the statement of the Right Sector organization leader Dmitro Yarosh about the recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity with Nagorno Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan is not the official position of Kiev.
According to Ivan Kukhta, the rights of ethnic minorities are not violated in Ukraine. In the ambassador’s words, he is of Russian descent, but has never had any problem in Ukraine.
“The Armenian community is one of the largest in Ukraine. According to official data, 120-150 thousand Armenians lived in Ukraine in 2001, but as far as I know, some 350 thousand Armenians currently live in the country. Armenians are represented at all the levels of power,” the ambassador said.
He also stated about Ukraine’s withdrawal from the CIS, noting that the referendum in Crimea contradicted the Constitution of Ukraine.
