Ukraine recalls its ambassador to Armenia

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry handed a note to the Armenian ambassador over Armenia’s position on the Crimea referendum, Director of Ukrainian MFA’s Information Policy Department Yevgeny Perebiynis said at a briefing, according to RBK-Ukraine.
In his words, Ukraine asked Armenia to express its official position on the referendum held in Crimea.

Ukraine has also decided to recall the Ukrainian ambassador to Armenia for consultations in Kiev, Perebiynis said.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Danilo Lubkivsky earlier told a briefing that Armenia’s recognition of the annexation of Crimea will have adverse consequences for bilateral relations.

“The Armenian ambassador has already been invited twice – today and yesterday. He was informed of out concern. Similar instructions were given to our embassy to Armenia. A note was handed to the Armenian side today. It contains our address requiring an explanation concerning Armenia’s official position. We also officially applied to Armenia. We expect Armenia to publicly state that it does not recognize Crimea’s annexation. If actions to be interpreted by us as unfriendly are taken or voiced, this will have adverse consequences for our bilateral relations”, Lubkivsky said.

He did not clarify, however, what he meant by the deterioration of relations. He only stressed that the matter concerns a wide range of measures on the part of Ukraine.
