Non-coalition factions accept parliamentary speaker’s proposal

The Armenian parliament today continued discussions on the four non-coalition factions’ proposal to set up an interim parliamentary commission to examine the ‘hidden increase in the tax burden on citizens’.

The main speaker, head of Heritage faction Ruben Hakobian said the political forces discussed and agreed with the National Assembly speaker Hovik Abrahamian’s proposal to submit all the issues to the appropriate bodies for discussion and hold parliamentary hearings.

“You must admit that there are problems and the issue was raised on the public’s demand. The vote has been postponed until March 28. Prior to that, we will set up an agenda and organize hearings. Let’s hope that they will produce positive results,” Hakobian said.

The speaker Hovik Abrahamian announced that a vote on the issue will be held following hearings, during the next four-day session of the parliament.

We would remind you that the four non-coalition factions of the parliament – ARF-Dashnaktsutyun, Armenian National Congress (HAK), Prosperous Armenia party (BHK) and Heritage factions – propose forming an interim commission to examine the legality of the introduction by the government and Yerevan municipality of extra duties on the population and business entities, as well as the ‘reasonableness’ and consequences of the hidden increase in the tax burden on citizens through installation of speed measuring devices and cameras, increasing transport fares, etc.”
