Safarian: Kesab events pose serious challenge to Armenia
The deportation of the Armenian population of Syrian town of Kesab poses a serious challenge to Armenia, the secretary of Heritage Party Stepan Safarian said.
In his words, since 2011 the Armenian government has implemented minimum programs to resettle out compatriots in Armenia, but today ‘we are facing the problem of withstanding the consequences’.
“Today we have to tell our compatriots from Kesab that the homeland is at their side, but only morally. Armenia should have assisted our compatriots in Syria as far as it could, but it was not done,” Safarian said.
He at the same time noted that he does not know whether it is necessary to send voluntary detachments from Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh to Kesab. According to him, resettlement of Kesab residents in Karabakh is not the best option and it shows hopelessness. “The state should be able to ensure the minimum security of its communities,” Safarian said.
