Farmanian: International community must condemn Kesab events

“I think that while here, any clearheaded person – not necessarily an ethic Armenian or a Syrian citizen – would describe the situation as a real tragedy which should not happen in the 21st century. The international community must condemn what has happened to Armenians of Kesab in the past few days,” the deputy of the Armenian parliament’s Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) faction Samvel Farmanian said in an interview with Syria’s state-run Suriya television channel.

As was reported earlier, a group of deputies of Armenia’s National Assembly left for Syria in connection with the events in the Armenian-populated town of Kesab. The delegation is composed of deputies of Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) faction Ms. Naira Karapetian, Samvel Farmanian, Levon Martirosian, Arman Sahakian, independent deputy Edmon Marukian, and deputy Tevan Poghosian of Heritage faction.

On the morning of March 21 attacks were launched on Kesab from three border positions in Turkey. Some of the town residents fled to mountains to escape danger, while the others were temporarily evacuated to the neighboring province of Latakia.
