Ruben Melkonian: Davutoglu’s statement is manifestation of cynicism

“I think that residents of Kesab are unlikely to return to their homes soon,” Turkologist Ruben Melkonian told reporters today. In his words, Kesab will long remain a military zone.

“The town is situated on the border with Turkey, which opened the way for penetration of armed terrorists. Their flow will be a long one,” he said.

According to Melkonian, Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoglu’s statement that Turkey is prepared to help Kesab Armenians is a manifestation of cynicism. “It is cynicism accompanied by silent support of the international community,” he noted.

“What kind of help is he talking about when Turkey repeats its actions ahead of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide? There is no Armenian community in Kesab anymore, the homes are looted. The population was deported, which is part of genocide, according to the UN Convention,” R. Melkonian stressed.
