HAK declines to meet with president as part of consultations

At its regular sitting Armenian National Congress (HAK) parliamentary faction discussed the invitation to meet with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan as part of the political consultations on the candidacy of the new prime minister, HAK said in a statement.

According to the statement, HAK declined President Serzh Sargsyan’s invitation to attend similar consultations after the 2012 parliamentary elections and the 2013 presidential elections as HAK “does not recognize Serzh Sargsyan as legitimately elected president”.

HAK faction finds no sense in such a meeting this time too. “It is necessary first of all to hold free and fair parliamentary and presidential elections in Armenia so as to form authorities elected by and accountable to the people, in accordance with procedures of the Constitution of Armenia,” the statement reads.
