President: Government to be formed within 20 days

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan today introduced the newly appointed Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamian to the government members and the officials invited to the government session.

“As you know, yesterday I appointed as prime minister a man who enjoys confidence of the majority of the parliamentary deputies – the speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Hovik Abrahamian. The mass media yesterday informed in detail the public about those processes and problems that the prime minister and the new government will have to solve. Following the prime minister’s appointment, the government continues to fulfill its obligations and I ask the government members to fulfill their obligations duly and responsibly. We together with the prime minister will form a new government within 20 days. At that time we will talk about the government issues in detail. I congratulate again Mr. Abrahamian and wish him success,” the Armenian president said.

For his part, Hovik Abrahamian thanked the president and asked the government members to continue working until the formation of the new executive body. In his words, there are still no preferences concerning candidates.

“Within the period of time prescribed by the Constitution, we will present the new composition of the government. The decisions will be conditioned by the results of work done by government members during this time and the ability to implement the new program in the future,” the prime minister said.
