Arthur Baghdasarian resigns as NSC secretary
“I as a party chairman and Secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council (NSC) has called a press conference to present my reasons for leaving the coalition and my vision of the future,” the chairman of Orinats Yerkir Party (OEK), NSC Secretary Arthur Baghdasarian told reporters at the start of a press conference today.
Summarizing the results of work done by NSC in the last six years, Baghdasarian said NSC is a well-established body both in Armenia and outside it.
“Those six years were years of joint work. I am resigning. My resignation is well-founded and reasonable,” Baghdasarian said, presenting the reasons for his decision.
Thus, among his reasons for quitting the position of NSC secretary, Arthur Baghdasarian indicated Serzh Sargsyan’s statement that he will not run for president anymore or aspire to the post of prime minister. According to Baghdasarian, the president’s statement served as a primary basis.
“Constitutional reforms, the introduction of the compulsory pension system, the resignation of the government and the prime minister, and the formation of a new government also served as a basis for my resignation,” he said.
We would remind you that earlier the political board of OEK Party took a decision to leave the ruling coalition. The decision said in particular:
“Orinats Yerkir Party’s further membership in the political coalition is considered contentious and inexpedient”.
