Richard Gere mistaken for homeless man, given bag of food
Actor Richard Gere was in midtown Manhattan Tuesday evening filming an upcoming movie when a kindhearted woman mistook him for a homeless man and gave him food.
“I saw him. He looked like a natural homeless guy. He didn’t seem like he was acting. He was an excellent homeless man,” witness Mizan Rahman told the New York Post.
Gere had been grabbing a quick meal, scarfing down a burger while standing next to a sidewalk garbage can near Grand Central Station. The actor — worth an estimated $100 million — was dressed ruggedly and sporting a ski cap and an unshaven look, giving the impression that he was living on the streets.
A woman approached the star of “Pretty Woman” and “An Officer and a Gentleman,” handed him a bag of food and left.
N.Y. Post reported that he smiled, took the bag and thanked her. Witnesses could not identify the stranger.
Cameras caught the whole scene while filming for his upcoming movie “Time Out of Mind.”
