Armenian environmentalists stage protest outside parliament

A group of environmentalists have gathered outside the Armenian parliament, protesting against the amendments to the Law on Lake Sevan.

The draft law, which envisages increasing the amount of water taken from the lake to 320 million cubic meters, is on the agenda of the parliamentary sitting today.

It is proposed making these changes within five years. It is planned to build several reservoirs by 2019, which will solve the problem of increasing water intake from Lake Sevan for irrigation.

Environmentalists demand the draft’s withdrawal. According to them, there is no need to take an additional amount of water from Sevan.
