Safarian: S. Sargsyan led Tsarukian, Kocharian and Ter-Petrosian to impasse

By appointing Hovik Abrahamian as Armenian prime minister, President Serzh Sargsyan led Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) leader Gagik Tsarukian to an impasse. The secretary of Heritage Party Stepan Safarian expressed that opinion at a meeting with reporters today.

“The appointment of Hovik Abrahamian as PM made Tsarukian choose between two options: wait and see the Abrahamian government drowning or help him keep afloat,” Safarian said, noting that both options are preferable for Serzh Sargsyan.

As regards the new government, Safarian does not see any prospects here, considering it as a deadlock for both first and second presidents of Armenia.

“Republican Party appointed people considered as cadres of second President Robert Kocharian. Now Kocharian has two options: to keep silent or to criticize his own cadres. Either option is advantageous to Serzh Sargsyan. And if Robert Kocharian can reject his cadres, Levon Ter-Petrosian can’t reject the March 1 events,” Safarian said.

As for the four non-coalition parliamentary parties, Heritage secretary said that in one move – Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s resignation, Serzh Sargsyan foiled the three-day rallies planned by those parties and thus “solved the issue”.
