Stepan Safarian: New government unable to fulfill assigned tasks
A large part of the minsters in the new Armenian government are big businessmen, the secretary of Heritage Party Stepan Safarian told reporters today, when speaking about domestic political developments.
In his words, many members of the new cabinet formed by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamian are connected with the oligarchy and in this context the task assigned to them is interesting.
“The tasks of the new government are to ensure economic growth, restore public confidence, and implement the foreign policy. It means one thing – you should attract money into the Armenian economy and continue with reforms in order to restore society’s trust,” Safarian noted.
According to him, the new government is unable to fulfill those tasks.
As regards the position of Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) during elections of the parliamentary speaker, Stepan Safarian said that this political force should not be blamed for anything. BHK never demanded a complete change of power, and its leader Gagik Tsarukian declared that BHK is an alternative, not an opposition force.
“As for the elections of the National Assembly speaker, it should be noted that cooperation cannot go on forever, if a joint agenda and a common goal are absent and if the sides publicly make different statements,” Safarian said.
Commenting on the decision of Orinats Yerkir Party (OEK) to go into opposition, Safarian said there is enough room in the opposition field.
“No one has a desire today to become opposition, there are a lot of vacancies. OEK is no opposition force. Arthur Baghdasarian left the coalition because of the next parliamentary and presidential elections,” Stepan Safarian noted.
