Catholicos Aram I receives Kessab-related letter from UN

Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia Aram I received a letter concerning the Kessab issue from the UN Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos, according to the Facebook page of Perio News. In her letter, Ms. Amos thanked Catholicos Aram I and assured him that she familiarizes herself with the problem of Kessab refugees and continues providing assistance to deal with the problem.

The political, humanitarian and national aspects of the Kessab problem remain a priority of His Holiness Aram I’s concern and activities.

Aram I expressed his satisfaction with the fact the Armenian people displayed unity over the Kessab events and provided material assistance to the Syrian Armenians.

The Primate of Perio Diocese Archbishop Shahan Sargsyan, accompanied by two priests, traveled to Latakia today to meet with the Kessab refugees there.

We would remind you that on the morning of March 21, attacks were launched on Armenian-populated town of Kessab in Syria from three border positions on the Turkish territory. Many of the Kessab Armenians had to abandon their homes. They found refuge in Latakia’s Armenian Church.
