Iranian foreign minister: Relations of Iran and Armenia are very strong

Armenia highly appreciates Iran’s balanced policy on the Karabakh problem, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian was quoted as saying by ISNA news agency (Iran).

The talks of the foreign ministers of the two countries – Mohammad Javad Zarif and Edward Nalbandian today were followed by a joint press conference.

Speaking about the implementation of energy projects, Edward Nalbandian said in particular: “We attach great importance to the development of bilateral relations and are prepared for further mutually beneficial cooperation. We hope that as a result of negotiations on the projects in transport, energy and other sectors, we will succeed in implementing these projects”.

Commenting on Iran’s nuclear problem, E. Nalbandian stressed that Armenia is among the countries which have hailed the Geneva agreement between Iran and six powers.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stated for his part: “The relations of Iran and Armenia are very strong. They are based on deep cultural links. The Armenian community in Iran is considered a respected and hardworking ethnic minority”.

Addressing the subject of regional problems, Mohammad Javad Zarif said: “Iran is ready to support efforts on ensuring regional stability. We hope for cooperation of regional countries aimed at peace and friendship”.

Speaking about cooperation of Iran and Armenia in international organizations, M. Zarif noted that the relationship of the two countries is based on mutual respect and common interests. “Iran and Armenia take close approaches on international and regional arenas. Iran is grateful to Armenia for its support in international organizations,” Foreign Minister Zarif stated.

During his official visit to Tehran, Armenian Foreign Minister Nalbandian is also expected to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Speaker of the Iranian Majlis Ali Larijani.

Edward Nalbandian will convey Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s message at the meeting with President Rouhani in the evening.
