Prime minister on Armenian-Turkish protocols and their ratification

During the presentation of the government program to Armenia’s National Assembly today, the deputy Khachatur Kokobelyan addressed a question concerning the Armenian-Turkish protocols to the prime minister. The government program does mention the issue, Kokobelyan said.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan replied that the Armenian-Turkish protocols are within the competence of President Serzh Sargsyan.

“I am sure that signing the protocols was a correct step in the sense that we expected Turkey’s Grand National Assembly to ratify them, which would give Armenia an opportunity to enter Europe,” the prime minister noted.

In his words, history shows that vigilance and caution should be exercised in relations with Turkey.

“Our hopes in this sense have not yet faded. There is still hope and I am sure that if Turkey does not ratify the protocols in the future, the Armenian president will take a decision,” H. Abrahamyan said.
