Iranian ambassador on national groups’ activities in Baku

“Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement is one of the important goals of Iran’s foreign policy,” Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pakaeen was quoted as saying by IRNA news agency (Iran).

Commenting on activities of Azerbaijan-based nationalist groups during a meeting with reporters at Iranian Foreign Ministry’s representation in Tabriz, Ambassador Pakaeen said in particular: “The activities of nationalist groups in Azerbaijan are at the center of our attention. The number of their members does not exceed 50, therefore these groups’ steps aimed against Iran’s national security do not worry Tehran”.

As regards the Karabakh conflict, the Iranian ambassador said: “The Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement is one of the important goals of Iran’s foreign policy. No doubt, regional security is of great importance to Iran”.

Speaking about occasional tension in bilateral relations, the Iranian ambassador noted that a reason for the chill in Iranian-Azerbaijani relations was the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 held in Baku.
