G. Sahakyan: Nagorno Karabakh Republic will not join Customs Union
The Nagorno Karabakh Republic will not join the Customs Union because the NKR is an unrecognized state from a legal point of view, the Armenian parliamentary speaker Galust Sahakyan told journalists today.
“In this specific case the NKR remains with Armenia and I think that better conditions are being created for solution of our further tasks, “the speaker said.
In his words, the NKR is a key theme of Armenian diplomacy, a spiritual value, and Armenia will not participate in any political process, any relations to the detriment of Nagorno Karabakh.
“As a customs area of Armenia, Karabakh will naturally have the same status as it has today. In other words, the creation of a customs point, etc. in Karabakh is out of the question,” G. Sahakyan noted.
Asked whether his words mean that Nagorno Karabakh will de facto join the Customs Union, but it will not join the CU de jure, Galust Sahakyan replied: “Of course. All the commodity circulation, investment, everything in Karabakh will be the same as in Armenia”.
As regards Nazarbayev’s statement and the Armenian president’s silence, Galust Sahakyan believes that Serzh Sargsyan did the right thing as otherwise it would have meant that importance was attached to the Kazakh president’s statement.
