Armenia proposes widening road at Upper Lars checkpoint
Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan had today a phone conversation with Russia’s Transport Minister, Co-chairman of the Russian-Armenian intergovernmental commission Maxim Sokolov to discuss repairs on several sections of Upper Lars border checkpoint, according to the press office of the Armenian government.
H. Abrahamyan stressed the need to find solutions for the prevention of landslides and avalanches, which negatively affect cargo transportation volumes between Armenia and Russia.
“It is a technical problem. I think we can implement a program to improve the border checkpoint’s infrastructure. I propose studying the terrain and widening the road at the sections where landslides occur. The Armenian government is ready to take a direct part in construction work together with the Russian side,” the Armenian prime minister said.
At M. Sokolov’s suggestion, a working group will be set up to study the terrain at Upper Lars border checkpoint, to be followed by the necessary measures.
