L. Aleksanyan: We should be more vigilant on border with Nakhijevan
Any speculation concerning defense and security issues is inappropriate so all the political forces of the country should take the right approach to that, the deputy of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) parliamentary faction Lernik Aleksanyan told reporters today.
Speaking about Azerbaijan’s actions on the border with Nakhijevan, the deputy noted that those steps did not come as a surprise to the Armenian side.
Two contract servicemen – Andranik Yeghoyan, 26, and Boris Gasparyan, 22 were killed by Azerbaijani sniper fire on the Nakhijevani border on June 5.
“In the past as well Azerbaijan tried to start serious actions and provoke tension in the Nakhijevan direction. It means that we should be more cautious on that section of the border,” Aleksanyan stressed.
In his opinion, Azerbaijan’s actions are related to the changing situation in the region.
As regards Nursultan Nazarbayev’s statement at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the HHK deputy said: “It remains to be seen whether the Armenian president’s silence or the opposite was correct – time will show”.
During the May 29 meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev read the letter of Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev and then said, addressing Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan: “So as not to excite our friend in Azerbaijan, you should join the Eurasian Union with the borders fixed in the UN as you joined the WTO”.
