Arpine Hovhannisyan: Europe witnessed Ilham Aliyev’s inadequacy

Europe has witnessed Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s inadequacy, the member of the Armenian delegation to the PACE Arpine Hovhannisyan wrote on her Facebook page after Ilham Aliyev’s speech at the plenary sitting of the summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

“Prior to Aliyev’s statements, PACE President Anne Brasseur in her welcoming speech put emphasis on several important points, noting in particular that the Karabakh problem should be solved by peaceful means only and in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group and that despite economic growth, the country has problems with human rights protection, democracy, etc. But, as they say, who are you telling this?” A. Hovhannisyan wrote.

According to her, Aliyev was extremely displeased by the questions about political prisoners in Azerbaijan, the absence of freedom of speech, and other painful problems.

Ilham Aliyev’s speech at the plenary sitting of the PACE summer session was accompanied by a protest whose participants taped their mouths in protest. A photo showing the protest was posted on Facebook by Armenian delegation member Ms. Naira Karapetyan.
