Political scientist: Azerbaijan wages total war against Armenia
Azerbaijan wages a total war against Armenia, the political scientist Levon Shirinyan told journalists today when discussing Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s speech at the PACE session.
In his opinion, Armenia did not give an adequate response to Aliyev’s bellicose statements. Azerbaijan has worked out a special strategy aimed at humiliating Armenia, Shirinyan noted.
“The appropriation of Armenian culture and lands and discrediting the Armenians has become a tradition for Azerbaijan. Armenia should give an adequate response by striking a counterblow,” Shirinyan said.
According to him, the fact that gunfire continues in the border zone and Aliyev makes such statements in the heart of Europe shows that the Armenian delegation to the PACE fails to fulfill its obligations and that unprofessional members were included in the delegation.
Shirinyan stressed that the commission should be composed of people capable of resisting intrigues and provocations and not ones who just participate in the commission work ‘as a pastime’. He stressed the need to improve the quality of the state machinery.
In his words, the Armenian parliament speaker Galust Sahakyan needs to review the employment pool and take the appropriate measures.
“It is difficult to talk cleverly, but to remain silent cleverly is even more difficult,” a former Armenian ambassador, political scientist Arman Navasardyan said for his part.
The diplomat expressed an opinion that the members of the Armenian delegation to the PACE should have put Aliyev in his place instead of keeping silent.
“It was not the case when representatives of our delegation were expected to keep silent. In addition to the fact that Azerbaijan makes threats in international bodies, he also humiliated the whole nation so they should not have been as silent as the grave,” he noted.
