It‘s hard to imagine development of legal system without democracy

Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended today the event to mark the launch of the Action Plan of the National Human Rights Protection Strategy, the press office of the government reported.

He delivered an address, in which he said in particular: “It is hard to imagine today the establishment and development of the legal system of a state and the efficient activities of government institutions without democracy and fundamental human rights and freedoms.

In the Republic of Armenia, the National Human Rights Protection Strategy approved by a presidential decree in 2012 has assumed importance from the viewpoint of developing the guarantees of human rights protection. It can be considered a most important instrument for the implementation of a common and coordinated human rights policy with the aim of ensuring efficient fulfilment of the commitments stated in the Constitution and assumed by our state under international agreements”.

The prime minister thanked all the interested parties involved in the action plan’s development: the representatives of state bodies, international organizations and civil society. In his words, as a result of fruitful work, the Action Plan of the National Strategy envisaging a number of measures related to various state bodies was approved under a government decision on February 27, 2014. “We consider the action plan a crucial stage in stipulating the guarantees of human rights in Armenia.

This event dedicated to the start of the implementation of the plan of actions stemming the Human Rights Protection Strategy has symbolic importance as it highlights our political will to implement it efficiently and expresses the readiness for consolidated implementation of the human rights-related measures under a single document,” H. Abrahamyan said.

He congratulated the event participants and expressed confidence that the action plan will promote reliable guarantees of human rights in our country.
