Aleksanyan: Appointment of T. Sargsyan as ambassador was correct decision

The decision to appoint Tigran Sargsyan as ambassador to the U.S. was correct - the former Armenian prime minister is an intellectual having wide experience and knowledge. The deputy of ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) parliamentary faction Lernik Aleksanyan expressed this opinion at a meeting with reporters today.

“Tigran Sargsyan is a trained, experienced specialist. He served as prime minister. He is familiar with Western values and is an expert in economics, which is also important,” Aleksanyan said, noting that there was nothing unusual in his appointment as a diplomat.

“In Armenia, the notion ‘bearer of Western values’ is understood differently. Today it means conducting offshore business,” the chairman of the Association of Political Scientists of Armenia Hmayak Hovhannisyan said when speaking about Tigran Sargsyan’s appointment as ambassador to the U.S.

“I don’t believe that this notion of Western values is correct, given the fact that Armenia has been a member of the Council of Union for 14 years. It is one thing to be famed as a bearer of Western values, and another thing to be such a bearer in reality,” the political scientist noted.
