In case of inaction, electricity prices will go up every year

Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) yesterday took a decision to raise the electricity tariff by 3.8 drams without presenting any counterarguments to the arguments about available reserves and the inexpediency of raising the tariffs, the deputy of Prosperous Armenia (BHK) faction Mikael Melkumyan said during a briefing in the Armenian parliament today.

Melkumyan said that today he spoke with PSRC chairman Robert Nazaryan by phone and Nazaryan expressed his readiness to discuss the issue of available reserves.

According to Melkumyan, when the matter concerns reserves, the state should compensate for at least 30% of losses. Besides, it is necessary to review depreciation of fixed assets, profit, reduce the profit rate, etc.

“If we fail to take steps, the financial gap will grow year by year and we will have to raise the tariff every year,” the deputy noted.

In his opinion, the state should take preventive measures to stop such developments.
