R. Hakobyan: Electricity tariff hike to result in 10% price growth in Armen

The four non-government factions of the Armenian parliament believe that the July 1 decision of Public Services Regulatory Commission to raise electricity tariffs in Armenia on August 1 is a political decision, the head of Heritage faction Ruben Hakobyan told reporters today.

According to him, the Armenian authorities established a tradition to present the public with a fait accompli by announcing that a debt was accumulated and the gas price should increase.

“What is happening is unconstitutional. The authorities use illegal methods when they adopt such decisions,” Hakobyan noted.

He stressed that the increase in the electricity tariffs will cause serious problems as “the cost of living in the country will go up by at least 10 percent”.

Ruben Hakobyan said the four factions adhere to their decisions and if the authorities misunderstood the demands presented to them and use the current pause to make illegal decisions, they will get an adequate response in the autumn.
