Armenian pupils win 6 medals and 3 certificates in Olympiads

Armenian high school pupils participated in the 55th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in South Africa on July 3-13, Armenian Ministry of Education and Science said.

The Armenian team led by lecturer of Yerevan State University (YSU) Smbat Gogyan has won 2 silver medals, a bronze, and 3 honor certificates. Gevorg Mnatsakanyan of Vanadzor senior school No 11 and Edgar Minasyan of Yerevan PhysMath School after A. Shahinyan won silver medals, Albert Gevorgyan of Yerevan ‘Quantum’ College won a bronze, while Hakob Hakobyan, Grigor Kerobyan and Hakob Tamazyan received honor certificates.

Besides, Armenian schoolchildren’s team led by YSU lecturer Ms. Gayane Ghukasyan won 3 bronze medals in the International Biology Olympiad in Indonesia on July 6-13. The winners are Siranush Babakhanova and Arman Simonyan of Yerevan PhysMath School after Shahinyan and Hasmik Avagyan from Yerevan Ayb High School.

The Armenian teams have so far been awarded 6 medals. Chemistry, Physics, Informatics and Astronomy Olympiads will be held soon.
