March in support of Levon Hayrapetyan planned in Yerevan on August 7

A march in support of businessman Levon Hayrapetyan is scheduled for August 7 in downtown Yerevan, the united headquarters in defense of Levon Hayrapetyan said in a Facebook statement.

“The march will start from the area adjacent to Alexander Tamanyan Monument (Cascade) and then continue along the following route: the Armenian President’s Residence, the Office of Human Rights Defender, Russian Embassy in Armenia, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The participants will hand letter-applications to the Armenian president, the human rights defender, the Russian ambassador, and Armenian foreign minister,” the statement reads.

Levon Hayrapetyan, 65, was detained by Russian Federal Security Service on July 15 after his plane from Nice landed at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport (the businessman lives mostly in Monaco). Investigators suspect him of having been involved in 2009 Bashneft’s sale by U. Rakhimov to Sistema Company.

Evidence given by former senator Igor Izmestyev serving a life term was a ground for L. Hayrapetyan’s detention, the Russian media said. The court also ruled to seize his shares worth over 300 million rubles in Bashneft. On July 17 Basmanny court of Moscow sanctioned Hayrapetyan’s arrest until September 15. Levon Hayrapetyan denies the charges against him.
