Tension on border became good lesson for Armenian society

Tension on the border has become a good lesson for societies of the two countries – Armenia and Azerbaijan, Director of Puppet Theatre after H. Tumanyan Prof. Ruben Babayan told reporters today.

”Border incidents are a lesson not only for us, but also Azerbaijan. Our society finally realized the need to be united. There is an upsurge of patriotism, we understood that our positions are well protected,” Babayan said, adding that all opinions voiced were mainly sober and adequate.

In his words, Armenian society also realized that it can rely only on itself. “Our army is a mirror of society that should be educated and intellectual. More importantly, Armenia understood that Russia’s reaction is not the reaction of a military ally. Azerbaijan is the initiator of it. It is impossible to conceal that,” he noted.

As for Azerbaijan, Babayan said Azerbaijanis realized that they are not prepared for war today. “Azerbaijan understood that Russia did not react and will not react. Azerbaijan also received evidence that our positions are well protected and the Armenian army can deal a heavy counterblow to the enemy,” he said.

He did not rule out that tension on the border will ease or escalate after the meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents.

“It is no secret that Russia wants to deploy peacekeeping forces in Nagorno Karabakh, which contradicts the interests of both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Iran and Georgia are also against a war in the region. In any case, everything will be clear after the presidents’ meeting. It is time for us to start thinking logically and develop further steps. We should understand that Soviet-era customs can no longer be used in our army,” Babayan said.

According to him, Armenia should expect a war at any moment. “War is like an earthquake that may hit Armenia at any moment. Our high-ranking officials must understand the need to look for new allies,” Babayan said.
