ICRC Armenia Office already notified of Karen Petrosyan’s death

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Office in Armenia has already been notified of the death of Armenian citizen Karen Petrosyan who was taken captive yesterday, Aysor.am was informed by Zara Amatuni, Head of the Communication Programs of the ICRC Yerevan Delegation.

“The ICRC is conducting a confidential dialog with the relevant authorities concerning all the issues related to the incident. For this reason ICRC does not make public comments on circumstances of the incident,” Ms. Amatuni said.

According to her, as part of its mandate to act as a neutral mediator, the ICRC maintains contact with the Armenian authorities and the family of the late man.

Z. Amatuni declined to respond to the question about the handover of Karen Petrosyan’s body to the Armenian side.
Karen Petrosyan, a 31-year-old resident of Chinari village in Armenia’s Tavush province who crossed into Azerbaijani territory yesterday and was taken captive, has died today, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement. According to the ministry, Karen Petrosyan allegedly “died of heart failure” in Baku.

The Azerbaijani Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has already been notified of K. Petrosyan’s sudden death.

Resident of Chinari village Karen Petrosyan was taken captive on August 7. He went to a nearby forest to gather wood. In all likelihood K. Petrosyan lost his way and crossed into Azerbaijani territory, which is also confirmed by initial reports of the Azerbaijani media.
