Safaryan: What happened is humiliating for Azerbaijani president
Azerbaijan made an attempt to put psychological pressure on the population of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh and display its new arms, but its venture failed thanks to actions of the Armenian side, the founder and head of Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, political analyst Stepan Safaryan told reporters today.
In his words, by starting provocative actions in Armenia’s Tavush province, Azerbaijan tried to break through some sections of the border so as to concentrate the main part of Armenian troops there and at the same time launch real actions in Karabakh, but now Baku does not know what to do.
“What has happened is humiliating for the Azerbaijani president because he made an attack and lost after arming and increasing the military budget for years. Aliyev should either admit that the ratio needs to be increased 17-fold or begin a new venture,” Safaryan said.
According to him, Azerbaijan’s strategy concerning Armenian borders resembles a terrorist strategy when an attempt is made to influence the enemy’s political will by targeting civilians.
Speaking about actions of Armenian parliament deputies and Foreign Ministry, Safaryan expressed surprise that no statement has been issued so far because certain steps must be taken.
