Shakaryan: NATO Summit to create some problems for Turkey

Nothing has changed in Turkey after the presidential election: Erdiogan continues governing the country, while Ahmet Davutoglu remains his assistant, Turkologist Artak Shakaryan told a news conference today.

Ankara’s political line will also continue, he noted.

Speaking about the two-day summit of NATO held in Wales, Shakaryan expressed an opinion that it will create some problems for Turkey. “The superpowers demand that Turkey should take a position on the ISIS (Islamic State) militant group,” the Turkologist said.
In his words, Turkey has considerable economic and strategic ties with Russia and is reluctant to adopt an openly anti-Russian position.

“To avoid those two major issues, Turkish President Erdogan will attempt to put forward diversionary issues at the summit, for example, the Nagorno Karabakh problem. He will attempt to speak not about the Karabakh conflict, but to discuss the possibility of Azerbaijan’s entry into NATO,” Shakaryan said.
