Naira Zhorabyan: BHK aspires to field presidential candidate

It is normal for political forces enjoying public confidence such as Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) to aspire to field their own presidential candidate, the secretary of BHK faction Naira Zohrabyan told journalists in the parliament today when she was commenting on the statement of ARF-Dashnaktsutyun faction head Armen Rustamyan to the effect that those political forces that are in favor of parliamentary government but are against the constitutional reforms are just struggling for presidency.

“There is nothing reprehensible in that. The opposite situation would be illogical,” she noted, adding that in the near future BHK Party will present in detail the reasons why it thinks that constitutional reforms are not necessary in Armenia at the current stage.

As for rumors that ARFD may withdraw from the group of four non-government parliamentary political forces due to lack of consensus over constitutional reforms, N. Zohrabyan said:

“I think ARFD should answer this question. I see no reason why the political forces that make part of “the four” and believe there constitutional reforms are not necessary at the current stage should make changes to their plans. It would be more correct if answers to those questions will be given after the sitting of “the four”.

For her part, deputy from Heritage party Ms. Zaruhi Postanjyan said that the four non-government factions are engaged in cooperation within the parliament and this cooperation has not yet developed into cooperation in the national interests such as a complete change of power, the dissolution of National Assembly and holding new presidential elections.

“When the process of serving the national interests starts – I hope it will happen – the forces to quit this process will also quit political processes,” she said.
