Zurabyan: HHK turned parliament into ‘front’

The last four-day sittings of Armenian parliament were quite interesting as they demonstrated once again failure in the authorities’ actions, the head of Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction Levon Zurabyan said during a briefing today.

“The authorities realized that society’s influence is the most important and powerful thing,” he noted.

In the opposition deputy’s words, representatives of the authorities view the National Assembly as a sort of “front” and all the time they face the threat of losing a majority in the parliament.

“Recently we learned that the parliament has turned into a sort of “front”. The authorities set themselves a serious goal – to torpedo the activities of the four non-government factions,” Zurabyan said.

According to him, in fact the political majority showed that they are not prepared to work from “trenches”. In order to save face, the authorities started to speak about a split within the four non-government parliamentary parties, which was what they tried to achieve by putting forward the idea about constitutional reforms’ necessity, but this initiative was not crowned with success.

The four political forces are united and resolute to work together, Zurabyan said.

The four non-government forces are ARF-Dashaktsutyun, HAK, Heritage and Prosperous Armenia (BHK) parties.
